About the project
WIFILM was created during the COVID-19 pandemic, when disruption in the film industry limited opportunities for professional development and networking. The project aimed to encourage new entrants into the industry and address the persistent underrepresentation of women. Partners across Europe worked together to develop a series of digital educational resources and an e-learning platform for aspiring film professionals and adult educators using a transmedial and intermedial pedagogical approach designed for digital learners. Throughout the project, training activities and mobility opportunities brought partners and learners together to exchange experiences, share best practices and contribute to the development of the project outputs.
IO3 – WIFILM MOOC platform (Prototype)
My role
As a project partner, I led the development of the third intellectual output, IO3 – WIFILM MOOC platform, overseeing the platform’s architecture and visual design and coordinating creative and technical workflows across design and web development. I also managed the co-development of IO1 – A.C.T. Curriculum, including role-specific tip sheets, videos, presentations, and audio resources for creative, technical and administrative careers in the industry, as well as IO2 – Case Study Library featuring video interviews with female film professionals from across Europe.

For the A.C.T. Curriculum, we defined the value proposition, learning outcomes and resource formats, designing shared guidelines such as content layouts, video and audio scripts. This established a shared framework to develop the content. We applied the same approach to the Case Study Library, developing a set of interview questions for partners across the consortium. In Germany, I interviewed film industry professionals, including one from Netflix productions, and managed the development of the German case studies. As leader of the MOOC platform, I coordinated web development and content localisation, ensuring that all digital outputs were progressively integrated into the platform across all partners languages.
A big part of the work was turning the resources into real-world learning experiences. I coordinated with University of Pitești in Romania and University of Nicosia in Cyprus to organise training events to test IO3 – In-service Training for adult educators, and coordinated activities for the final training event in Ireland, where we produced a short film.

IO2 – CASE STUDY LIBRARYFemale film professionals in Germany
The Case Study Library featured women professionals from across Europe sharing their experiences of working in the film industry. In Germany, I worked with Natalie and Lisa to produce two case study videos, highlighting the challenges, opportunities and practical advices for women pursuing careers in film. I really enjoyed getting to know their stories and hearing about their experiences first-hand. It was one of the most inspiring parts of the project.
Natalie MacMahone is a German actress, film director, and screenwriter, and founder of the Female Filmmaker Festival Berlin. As a multifaceted artist, she shared insights into her career journey, from finding her way into the film industry to building her own path as a director and screenwriter.
Lisa Hauss is a German Assistant Director with experience in international film productions, including the Berlin-shot Netflix series The Queen’s Gambit. As an experienced professional, she described her personal experience of navigating the industry and building a career behind the camera.
International training event in Irland
Virginia, Ireland, July 2022
For one week, film professionals from across Europe came together in Virginia, Ireland, to create a short film. Working in teams, we developed a story exploring female empowerment and the stigma surrounding women travelling alone. From scriptwriting and costume design to acting, filming, and editing, each team focused on different aspects of filmmaking, contributing to bringing our idea to life. It was a memorable week of creative collaboration that taught me a lot about the craft and what it means to keep a team on track when everyone has a different vision.
Results
The project was more than a collaborative initiative. It made it possible for educators, industry professionals and learners across Europe to cross paths, opening up new perspectives and career possibilities. Seeing the project reach the Seminci Film Festival in Valladolid, Spain, for its final conference, was a particularly meaningful moment, bringing our mission into one of Europe’s major film events. In Germany, we also took the project at a local cultural festival, introducing its resources and ideas to a wider audience.
